With iOS 14, which happens to be the company’s latest iteration for devices running iPhone, the company announced a plethora of exciting new features and improvements that will power a huge lineup of iPhones, including an almost 5-year old iPhone 6s / 6s Plus, and a 4-year old iPhone SE (1st-Gen) — both of which are fairly old devices.
To give you a quick rundown of what’s new with the latest iOS iteration, Apple has introduced a completely-redesigned home screen on iOS 14, called App Library, which automatically groups apps together for quick and easy access. It has also brought along improved widgets that now offer more freedom and control over various aspects like the size and location. Interestingly, another major update to iOS 14 is the inclusion of picture-in-picture mode, which has been available on the iPad for some time and allows you to watch videos while performing different tasks like messaging, taking notes, etc. Moving right along, there is also the introduction of App Clip, which is a small part of an app that loads within seconds to perform a specific operation instantly, without requiring the need to download an app. Besides these, iOS 14 also includes a range of other features, tweaks, and tiny improvements across various apps and elements of the operating system, which will be covered in a separate post.
iOS 14 Supported devices
Talking about availability, iOS 14 is slated to be available across a range of devices, including –

What’s interesting about the list is that, the range of supported devices that Apple is offering iOS 14 on includes two of the oldest models, the iPhones 6s / 6s Plus and the iPhone SE (1st-Gen) — something that is exciting for those with older iPhones. While the iPhone SE (1st-Gen) was launched as a special edition device back in the year 2016 and is more than 4 years old now, the iPhone 6s / 6s Plus was announced in 2015, almost 5 years back. It is interesting to see the company pushing the boundary and adding support for almost a 5-year old model to run on the latest operating system. However, if you have been following Apple, this shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the company has been known to offer software updates for at a good 4-5 years span.
iPadOS 14 Supported Devices
Similarly, the iPadOS 14 is coming to many of the existing iPad lineups which include iPad Air 2 that was launched way back in October 2014.

iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 will launch to the public in the fall, with a public beta available in July.
