A complete office suite on your handset for less than a Dollar. And no ordinary office suite at that – Quickoffice has been around for a while now, and its latest avatar comes with full support for viewing, editing and create Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. There is cloud integration, options to share files through mail and even some very handy graphic-editing capabilities. Pretty much THE productivity app to have on your iPhone, we think.
BackStab (iPad and iPhone)
Original price: $6.99 Now available for: $ 0.99 Available from: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id440313496?mt=8
If the notion of console quality games on tablets no longer makes people snigger, then games like GameStab have played their role in this transformation. You play the role of Harry Blake, a man who has been betrayed and needs to fight to get back his honour in a medieval world. Run across rooftops, dodge cannonballs and rattle your sabres in rich locales. High class entertainment, we think.
Scanner Pro (iPad and iPhone)
Original price: $6.99 Now available for: $1.99 Available from: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id333710667?mt=8
Both the iPad and iPhone have pretty decent cameras and this handy app from Readdle allows you to use them as a scanner. So you can take a picture of a document and convert it into a PDF, share it, convert paper notes into sketches, send a scanned documents for printing and so on. And the scanning actually works – you don’t just get a picture of a document, but a number of software tweaks ensure that you get something that is almost like a proper scanned copy. Definitely worth it.
Virtua Tennis Challenge (iPad and iPhone)
Original price: $4.99 Now available for: $1.99 Available from: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id517271093?mt=8
Touchscreens have become a rage in the gaming world, but the idea of swiping your fingers to control a character and their antics remains utopian – you keep depending on onscreen buttons to find your way around. Virtua Tennis Challenge however has managed to do away with the buttons to a large extent with some of the best gesture control we have seen on a touchscreen title. Yes, you can use onscreen buttons too, but this is one of the first purely swipe-oriented mainstream titles we have used.
Shakespeare Pro (iPhone and iPad)
Original price: $9.99 Now available for: $1.99 Available from: https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/shakespeare-pro/id341392367?mt=8
We know the book-hating crowd will glare at us for this, but we must confess to having a very soft corner in our heart fro Readdle’s excellent rendition of the works of the most famous author of them all. Not only do you have all the works of the Bard (in their original spellings, if you so wish to view them), but also detailed scene breakdowns, character sketches, a comprehensive glossary tale version of some of the plays, and in our favourite touch – a simple shake of your device generates a random memorable quote. To download or not to download? At $1.99, it is certainly not the question!

A collective groan went up from the world of apps when news of this deal came out. For, many have been so addicted by this award winning battle between the undead and the plant kingdom that they went right ahead and purchased the game at its original price. If you are among those who hasn’t, then this is just the time for you to grab one of the most celebrated games in the history of mobile gaming. And be prepared to forget about everything else as you make one last, photosynthesis-laced stand against the Zombie horde.

We still love travelling from galaxy to galaxy, seeking adventure and getting into battle time and again. The graphics are spectacular, the sound effects exceptional and the gameplay simple and addictive. We would have paid for it, it is that good. As a free offering, it is our pick of all the titles that have gone free this Black Friday.
